Undergraduate Scholarship Information

We understanding that paying for college can be a stressful topic. All incoming and current food science students should complete the University of Arkansas general scholarship application and the Bumpers College general application. The scholarship application cycle opens Jan. 1 and closes Feb. 15 of every year. Please visit the Bumpers College Scholarship page to learn more about the application process.

Every year the Department of Food Science Awards $19,000 to our students. See our departmental scholarships below:

Eligible applicants must be food science majors and meet the following criteria:

Jim "J. B." Brooks Memorial Scholarship

Preference to graduate students specializing in fruits and vegetables; undergraduates also eligible; high academic performance; financial need

Ron Buescher Endowed Scholarship

Preference to undergraduates involved in research activities

Food Science Alumni Scholarship

no additional criteria

Food Science General Scholarship

no additional criteria

Gerber Endowed Scholarship in Pediatric Nutrition & Food Science

Preference to students studying in food related fields with an emphasis on pediatrics;  food science and human environmental sciences majors

Dr. Navam Hettiarachchy Endowed Scholarship

2.75 or higher cumulative grade point average; preference to graduates of Arkansas high schools with demonstrated superior leadership skills in support of the food industry.

Michael Johnson Endowed Fund in Food Science Scholarship

One scholarship to each: outstanding freshman, outstanding sophomore, outstanding junior

Ozark Food Processors Association Jerry Dickson Award

Preference to students with interest in pursuing a career in the food industry

Interest in career in culinary arts; 3.00 or higher cumulative grade point average; preference to current students and transfer NWACC culinary graduates; majors in nutrition and/or hospitality also considered

Financial need; academic excellence

Joe & Gretchen Steele Scholarship

John W. and Trannye Odom White Scholarship

Financial need; graduate students may be considered.

Kenneth and Lila Wiese Memorial Scholarship

3.00 or higher cumulative grade point average on a 4.00 scale; preference to Arkansas residents
